Wine Drawing Prints
The wine drawings, and my love for wine overall, started with wine tastings I had in Marin County, California, where I lived — and there were lots of wine tastings in Marin. Many industry players would stop into Michael’s Wine Cellar as they made their way north to say hi to the owner, Michael. I met a young woman wine broker there, who later became a friend. One day she asked me if I wanted to go to the Kapalua Bay Wine Symposium on Maui, Hawaii. “….uh yeah I wouldn’t miss that for anything”. They had wine experts, estate owners, winemakers, educators, and a few people like me. That was where I met Alan Young. Alan was the president and founder of the International Wine Academy based in Napa, California. He discovered I was an artist and championed me to do the wine academy logo for him in exchange for a cellarmasters and viticulture diploma; a 10-day, all-intensive class. Afterward, he asked if I was interested in illustrating his book on Pinot Noir, which entailed a trip to Germany, Switzerland, Austria, and France. The wine drawings were born on this journey through Europe and helped illustrate parts of the trip. The drawings themselves are all pen and ink on high-quality artist's paper.
